as i was awalking along the canalside...

11/29/05 11:36 am - as i was awalking along the canalside...

...i heard a flap-flap-flap-whirrr- simultaneous *splash*, *noise*as*of*sheet*glass*shattering*, and *outraged*squawk!*

a trio of ducks (well, a duck and two drakes)'d came into "land" on the canal surface, as normal:

only things aren't normal...

one - the duck - landed in the way broken earlier by the passage of a canal barge; one landed on thickish ice, and shot off along it at a rate of knots, its webbed & clawed feet not serving half as well to slow it down upon ice, as they would in water; and one landed on ice thin enough to break under the impact but not shatter, being thick enough to break rather in sheets, than in small lumps'n'shards.

lancaster's wildfowl hasn't yet adjusted to this unfamiliar "ice" stuff...
