For some unaccountable reason I'm reminded of the old tale of a woman taking her young son to an exhibition of impressionist art. On pointing to one of the paintings and saying "This one is supposed to be a picture of a cowboy on his horse", she received the following reply from her offspring: "Then why isn't it?"
It is regrettable that at least one of the two components of the phrase "minimalist music" is usually sacrificed in practice.
I think you'd have to go a long way to beat John Cage's 4'33" of silence as a minimalist work. I'm waiting for the abbridged version, or possible the a capella remix. Sadly, living as I do in the great industrial (?) heart of the midlands, silence is something that doesn't happen
